Download Release Notes Document Templates

Release notes typically provide the following information:
1. New features in a backup system
2. Known limitations
3. Updates that did not make it into the main documentation
4. Changes to how the system works
5. Details of bug fixes

Obviously, every time a backup vendor releases a new version of product, it is not feasible (or even appropriate) to read the entirety of the documentation again. However, administrators must make sure they read at least the release notes before planning any upgrades. In particular, backup products over time may change the available functionality or licensing required for particular functions. It is much less traumatic to read the release notes and act accordingly prior to performing an upgrade than it is to discover after the fact that additional licenses are required or a particular type of operation can no longer be performed. Additionally, the release notes should help administrators plan both the upgrade and any backout/contingency options that may need to be followed if an upgrade fails.
